But if you have to order them in Germany then why not for a quarter of the price ? http://www.espressomaschinendoctor.de/E...13558.html Or here http://www.nuova-ricambi.de/shop/de/700102 Terranova Posts: 347 Joined: Mar 15, 2012 Location: Germany Cologne / West Indies
Thank you Frank. According to the La Cimbali Max Grinder - a first look . I am not sure they are the same. The espressomachinedoctor.de they offer several flat burrs for Cimbali grinder one is http://www.espressomaschinendoctor.de/E...13558.html and the other one for Cimbali Max http://www.espressomaschinendoctor.de/E...13561.html . Can you help me to make sure both flat burrs can work for Cimbali Max? Thank you! DONALD TWN Posts: 2 Joined: May 30, 2012 Location: Taiwan
Hello: cuisinart From what I have seen and read here and in other forum, the Cimbali Max is called a hybrid type grinder ie: one with two sets of burrs instead of one. The first set in the bean path is conical and breaks up the beans, the second set in the path is flat and does the finer grinding work. Due to this design, cuisinart the second set does not have a double set of teeth (thick -> thin) like the usual burrs in flat burr grinders as they do both tasks ie: break up the beans and grind them fine. This is the main (only?) difference between what are basically the same size and hole pattern burrs. See this photo to compare the two types of burrs: Photos courtesy nuova-ricambi cuisinart and espressomaschinendoctor. No doubt about it, they 'are' quite different as they have different tooth patterns. The fact that the conical cuisinart burr set in the Cimbali Max does the initial break up of the beans means that the flat set does less demanding work and will probably last longer than plain flat burrs, the conical set probably lasting forever. Now, the most important question is this one: does the fact that the burrs will probably last more and have a different design in any case justify there being up to a 6.7X difference in price? I think not, using the same materials and machinery, they are probably easier and faster to manufacture as they are less complex in design. IMHO it is just a ripoff, like most if not all Cimbali OEM parts. Just my $0.02 and as always, YMMV. Cheers, cuisinart CIV civ Posts: 247 Joined: May 30, 2007 Location: Buenos Aires, Argentina
The Cimbali Max uses a different burr set than say the Cimbali Jr. The Max and Jr hybrid that ChrisCoffee sells use the hybrid burr set. They are like the old DRM burrs set with all of the big work being done by the conical burrs and the flats doing all of the medium and fine work. When I had the titan project grinders in house the only thing that bested the Max was the Robur and not by much. In the end, I ended up selling my Mazzer and have been running two Max's for the past few years. To your point, you need to make sure the burr set you get is for the Max since they have a completely different tooth pattern than the rest of the LaCimbali line.
To cuisinart what Cannonfodder/Dave said: +1 To what CIV/Carlos said about Max burr longevity: +1. For home use, a Max burr set should last pretty close to forever. Based on my own use as well as conversations with La Cimbali grinder techs, allow me to add that unless you've purchased a used grinder which has seen very hard commercial use, be really cuisinart sure that whatever problem you believe will be solved by swapping out the burrs is -- in fact -- really a product of worn or broken burrs. FYI, La Cimbali's conical/flat burr set seems more susceptible cuisinart than other burr sets to trapping bean fragments which stale or go rancid and affect the taste of future grinds. So do the Junior and Max body designs. Clean your burrs regularly with Grindz. You can certainly remove and clean the burrs thoroughly in some other way if you like, but Grindz is simpler and works well. Don't forget to open and close the burrs as you run the Grindz through them. That will help to dislodge anything which may be caught cuisinart in the burrs, and also add a little extra polish. Don't forget cuisinart to "re-season" cuisinart the burrs with some throw away grade beans before grinding whatever it is you use to make coffee. The Junior, Max and Max Hybrid (Max burrs in a Junior body) require that you remove the hopper (requires a screw driver) on a regular basis and clean the beans and bean fragments from the deck surrounding the throat.
