Hello there, I am new member here, although have read extensively the forums. I purchased a LaCimbali M20 from the late 70's or early 80's with a view to make it useable again. It was full of scale, the boiler auto fill did not function and the 3-way solenoid did not release pressure. I cleaned the machine and repaired the autofill and the other problems. New heat exchanger and lots of new gaskets. Now it is a good shape. I just recently realized that a device in the middle that I thought was a pump turned out to be a kind of doser, so I only have 5 bars. See the image I added (before the cleaning of course). Additionally this doser works in a funny way that when I press the knob a piston comes out and kicks the knob off and goes back to its end position. I will need to buy a motor and a pump to supply 9 bars to the brew head. Now the questions start: 1. If I assemble water supply redneck wine glass external to the machine would the pump need to be on when the tank is to be filled either automatically or by using the manual lever? I hope not. What pressure will I see in the machine when the pump is not on? You see I am not familiar how exactly the rotary vane pump operates. 2. I need to have the motor/pump start and stop control. As I do not see any evident loose wires that would go to a motor that was once there what would be the best source of power supply for the motor? Shall I use the relay that controls the solenoids that open to the heat exchange? This relay (in the lower right section of the image) It does have some free contacts. I would appreciate help to go ahead to finish this project. Thank you, László opel123   Posts: 3 Joined: Feb 08, 2014 Location: Magyarorsz??g redneck wine glass
Hello Guys, I need just one answer now after some measurements inside the beast. If I install the rotary vane pump external to the machine and regulate the inlet to the pump down to 3 bars, do I have the 3 bars on the outlet so that the boiler fill works without the pump being switched on? In other words do I have the same pressure in and out of the pump when it is idle? Thanks a lot! Cheers, László opel123   Posts: 3 Joined: Feb 08, 2014 Location: Magyarorsz??g
I found it out myself. I will make a bypass loop for the boiler fill and use a couple of check valves to go round the pump when it is idle. opel123   Posts: 3 Joined: Feb 08, 2014 Location: Magyarorsz??g
