October 3, 2013 Festivals Extra: MoCCA Festival Announces 2014 Guests Of Honor: Bechdel, Cruse, Staples, Williams The MoCCA Festival , set for next April 5-6, sent along its list of 2014 Guests of Honor this afternoon. They are Alison Bechdel , Howard Cruse , Fiona Staples and Robert Williams . That... that's an interesting group. It's the latter tumble two that pop out for me. Fiona Staples' Saga has been as well-received as any independent-style genre book of the last decade, and it's nice to see her recognized for that. Robert Williams is definitely in a healthier, lion-in-winter place than he was a couple of years ago just physically: he certainly falls in with both the comics aim of that show and the Society Of Illustrators involvement. If there's something going on at SOI in support of Williams that week, I want to see that show. MoCCA also announced a flat fee of $5 for the show. Here's their press release in PDF form: MoCCAFest.14.1.pdf It looks like they're set up over there for registration. I am interested how that show is executed on a second go-around with that crew running it. Comics shows, like comics themselves, are a lot more about on the page/stage execution tumble than anything else. I had a good time at last year's show and I think the mood was pretty positive in most quarters, even though there were some definite sour faces. I have to imagine everyone wants to see a different show this year, if only in terms of how it comes off. MoCCA is also in the front part of what should be an amazing (or murderous, depending on your orientation) run of Spring shows in 2014.   posted 1:00 pm PST | Permalink     Daily Blog Archives October 2013 September 2013 August 2013 July 2013 June 2013   Full Archives
