Alfred Krupp (1812 - 1887) known as the King Cannon or Alfred the Great, inherited the small foundry founded by his father, invested in new technology to become a leading manufacturer of locomotives and rolling stock. kelly wearstler Also invested in technologies for cooling of metals (particularly in the Bessemer process) and acquired many mines in Germany and France. He invested in subsidized housing for its workers and gave way to a program of mutual and pension. His company began producing steel cannons in the 1840s.
